Ginger and Honey Tea

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend. My Friday night was a bit raucous and I spent all day Saturday morning paying for it with a killer headache. So Saturday night I stayed in, made dinner with one of my roommates and curled up on the couch with my iPad watching Netflix. It was around 10:30 when my roommate was heading out with some friends that I kept thinking, "How lame is it that I am home doing absolutely nothing on a Saturday night?" "Shouldn't people be calling me to go out, drink too much and dance the night away like every other 20-something year old in Seattle?" After a moment of self pity I quickly remembered how awful my hangover was this morning and was grateful for a relaxing night and an empty house. It was just me and my iPad...

Flipping through some of my favorite blogs I found a recipe for a ginger cold fighting tea. I have been drinking a lot of tea lately. A few weeks ago I was really really sick, like hacking up my lungs and suffocating in my own snot {sorry I know that's gross}. I got over the worst of it and I don't want it coming back. The medicinal benefits in this tea apparently help fight colds and the flu, and it tastes a lot damn better than Emercen-C or Airborne. The following recipe is from the always inspiring blog Design Sponge.

Ginger & Honey Cold-Fighting Tea
Yields 32 ounces (2-4 servings)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2–4 tablespoons honey, to taste
  • pinch of cayenne
  • 1–2 cloves fresh garlic, minced (optional)

Instructions

1. Combine all ingredients in a ceramic teapot.

2. Stir and allow to steep for about 10 minutes. For a dose of added medicinal value, add fresh garlic to the tea. Strain off the liquid through a fine mesh sieve before use. Compost the solids.

3. Pour tea into mugs and enjoy.

Seriously could I be more of a grandma?
