Kiev Ukraine!

After a long uneventful flight we landed in Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine, last night at the Boryspil International Airport. By the time we got here it was midnight so we collected our things and settled into the apartment which we have rented for the weekend. The electricity to half of the apartment isn't working at the moment, but other than that it is really spacious and nice. I slept for the majority of the plane ride and with the time difference, we all stayed up chatting and drinking tea, finally going to bed at around 4 am.

A little bit about Kiev:
  • Kiev is the largest city in Ukraine and the one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe dating back to the 5th century.
  • Most people speak Ukrainian or Russian and all of the signs are all in Cyrillic.
  • The official currency is called Grivna but the economy is so bad and the US dollar is in such high demand that most people prefer US dollars.

Its nearly 2pm here and everyone in my group is still asleep because of the time difference, but I am wide awake and so anxious to start exploring the city that I spent the last half hour researching places to go and things to see in Kiev. I am slowly picking up some Russian and Ukrainian, but my head is going to be spinning with all of the different languages by the time I make it to Barcelona.
